Bad beat

Losing a bet that was all but won through an improbable late twist — a meaningless touchdown flipping a spread, an empty-net goal blowing an under. Bad beats are variance wearing its cruelest mask; their emotional weight, not their frequency, is what damages bankrolls afterward.
